U9 Green - Mike De Lisio

Hockey Background:

I have been involved in hockey either as a player or coach for over 30 years. As a player, I was a defenceman for AAA and Tier II Jr. A teams, then finished my playing career in USports with Queen’s University. As a coach, I have been an assistant, associate, and head coach at the AAA and AA level in Canada and the USA. Recently, I spent three years as the lead instructor for the 2014 group in the BMHA Initiation Program and was an Assistant Coach for the U9 Rangers Green in 2021-2022.

Coaching Philosophy:

My mission as a coach is to create a fun environment for hockey skill and personal development. Practices will focus on acquiring and developing hockey skills with appropriate progression, then applying these skills in game-like situations. An emphasis will be placed on learning, work ethic, competition, and teamwork. Ultimately, my most important job is to provide a fun environment so players look forward to their next ice session.

I was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 4th round in the NHL draft but never made it to NHL. I did however play 12 season professionally with the majority of my professional career being spent in Europe.

Since retiring from hockey 6 years ago:

  • I have been the assistant coach for two years with the Prebbel Selects spring team-  2020- 2022
  • Assistant coach for the Gloucester Rangers U9 - 2021

Coaching Philosophy:

I believe if you have knowledge then you need to pass it on. I also believe that playing sports and specifically; teams sports, builds character, confidence, work ethic, team comradery and prepares kids for life.  Lastly, but certainly not the least, playing sports is about having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime!

Playing Experience:

I have been playing hockey from the age of 8 at various levels ranging from house league (my home town didn't have enough players to field a rep team) to AAA, progressing to Major Junior and University hockey levels. I have benefited from playing with many great players and learning from numerous inspirational coaches. Hockey has opened doors for me and allowed me to meet a lot of great people.

Coaching Experience:

I have been coaching hockey for the past 15 years at many different age categories and skill levels ranging from IP to High School Varsity teams, in both Head and Assistant Coaching positions. Before having children of my own, I coached multiple years of high school hockey, both boys' and girls' teams, and experienced the excitement of winning a City Championship. Over the past 7 years,  I have really enjoyed coaching my kids and meeting other families. I truly value watching the players I coach improve and progress. Prior to coaching hockey, I also had the opportunity to run City of Ottawa Hockey Camps for children aged 5 to 16 for multiple years.

Coaching Philosophy:

Hockey is a great game that is based on achieving your best results through hard work and emphasizing fun. Each player’s individual skill levels are unique and always have room for improvement. Learning while having fun creates an environment for success and the desire to continue to develop. Just like my career in education, I try to create a place where kids feel safe and happy which allows them to grow as individuals.

Preparedness and organization are fundamentals of coaching that allows for success. Properly organized practice plans lead to successful expectations of players and the proper use of time.

My goal for each team that I have coached is for each player to do their best at all times while having fun doing it. Working hard leads to success which in turn results in fun. Each players’ development and love for the game is the most important aspect.

U10 A White - Shawn Dandy

Hockey Background:

I grew up in the east end of Ottawa playing minor hockey in Cumberland. Only starting hockey at 10, I was drawn to playing goalie and do that to this day.

Having passionate coaches and supportive parents allowed me to quickly advance from playing a couple years of house league to AA competitive hockey for the remainder of minor hockey with the Cumberland Barons.  While attending University I played for the South Ottawa Canadians (Jr. B), and finished off with the Rockland Nationals (Jr. C).

Coaching Philosophy:

Over the past few years I have been dedicated to instilling my passion for hockey through coaching.  I began coaching IP in Metcalfe and coached a U9 Gloucester Rangers team last season.  My priority remains invested in creating a fun and safe learning environment for these young hockey players.  The objective at U10 is predominately on skill development as well as positional play with transition to full ice this season.  I put a high priority on being organized and creating an energetic and positive atmosphere for learning and fun.

Coming off another COVID hockey season, my biggest goal is to ensure our kids enjoy coming to the rink and emphasize the values of hard-work, being a good teammate and playing to their potential.

U11 A - Andrew Klaassen

Hockey Background:

Having grown up on the outskirts of the Ottawa area, I started my hockey career playing for the Metcalfe Jets at a young age then moved onto the Gloucester Rangers AA, the highest level of hockey within those boundaries.

During my draft year I was selected to play for the Owen Sound Attack and had an opportunity to play for their Junior A affiliate team, however I chose to remain in the Ottawa area to play with the Ottawa Junior Senators who had selected me first overall in the CJHL draft.

I played 5 years in the CJHL with the Ottawa Junior Senators and also the Cumberland Grads. During this time in the CJHL I had the opportunity to try out for U17 team Ontario. After my time in the CJHL I finished off my career where it all began with the Metcalfe Jets Junior B team.

Coaching Philosophy:

With having such a great hockey career I was able to experience a wide variety of coaching methods that will allow me to give my players the confidence they require, which will allow them to succeed with their own hockey careers.  In order for them to gain this confidence I will work on player development on an individual skill set and team play. As a coach I will set guidelines for players to respect coaches, peers and officials as this is an important life skill as they develop their careers and above all to have fun and enjoy the game.

Coaching Experience:

Hockey has always been a great passion of mine. During my adolescent years I had the amazing opportunity to help out with the Eastern Ontario Flyers AAA spring hockey teams and volunteered my time at hockey camps throughout my summers.

My coaching started with the Metcalfe Jets Jr. B team as a Defensive Coach for 3 years. I then coached at the IP level in 2017 and have been apart of several minor hockey teams as a Head Coach (Metcalfe Jets) and Assistant Coach (Gloucester Rangers).

U11 AA - Brad Hickes

Hockey Background

I am excited to have the opportunity to coach the U11 AA Gloucester Rangers for the upcoming 2022-2023 season. I’ve been involved in playing/coaching hockey my entire life and am looking forward to another fun and exciting season.

Growing up in Manitoba, I played my minor hockey in Winnipeg and continued playing at the junior level with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL), OCN Blizzard (number one ranked Junior A team in Canada and winning a MJHL Championship in 1998-1999) and finished with the Winkler Flyers (MJHL Junior A).

Playing the sport is still an important part of my life and I continue to play recreationally.

Coaching Experience

I have been involved in coaching minor hockey for over 20 years in Nunavut and throughout Canada. Most recently, I have been the Head Coach for the Gloucester Rangers for U9/U10.

Coaching Philosophy

The foundation of all the successful teams that I have played on, or been a part of, has been built on communication, respect, safety and most of all FUN. Our plan for the year will be heavily focused on skill development and developing complete players. I am passionate about ensuring age appropriate development and our coaching staff will take all the steps necessary (through the seasonal plan) to ensure that players have the core skills needed to excel. For youth at this age, it is important for them to feel confident playing the game fast, being tenacious on the puck and through hard work.

Our goal for the season will be for all our players to have had the most fun possible, while developing a love for the game, and leaving the year with a strong skill set and work ethic.

Go Rangers!

Playing Experience:
I’ve played at various competitive levels in the Quebec City area culminating in Junior B before moving away for university and transitioning to coaching. In total, I have spent more than half my life playing and coaching hockey.

Coaching Experience:
I began coaching as part of the Greater Kingston AAA Minor Hockey Association at the minor PeeWee, major PeeWee and major Bantam levels while at university. I’ve coached in France at various levels from U9 to Junior and assisted with First Division professional team.  During this same 5 year period I also coached Spring hockey and instructed at hockey schools. Since moving to Ottawa I’ve coached my hockey playing kids from IP to Midget at various levels and in various roles (house league and competitive). I’ve also launched the coach mentorship program at the Blackburn Minor Hockey Association. Last season, I coached the Rangers U11 A team.

Coaching Philosophy:
My approach starts with creating a fun, competitive environment and providing as varied a development experience as possible.

I’m a big proponent of playing fast, high pressure and puck possession hockey. The basis of this starts with a focus on continuously developing key basic individual skills. I believe in creating a positive, supportive, team-first mindset that challenges the player. It is important for me that every player is provided with the best possible program to maximize their opportunity to develop.

Hockey Background:

I grew up playing hockey in London, Ontario, and have been coaching minor hockey since 2012. This will be my 5th season with the Gloucester Rangers. In addition to being a parent-coach, I have overseen coach and player development for Leitrim Minor Hockey Association the past eight years as VP Operations, President and Director of Development. This has given me great visibility and perspective on the full hockey lifecycle and has helped to shape my philosophy around player development. Fostering a long-term love of the game in all players is an objective in everything I do.

Coaching Philosophy
As Head Coach of the U14 AA team we will be focusing on the players’ all-around skill development, with an increasing focus on team play and strategy. With the introduction of body contact this year, maintaining strength and fitness will be more important than ever. The players are really starting to grow into young adults, and I believe that the work ethic, motivation and reliance on team members required for hockey are all a big part of this transition.

Coaching Experience:

I have been Coaching minor hockey for over 7 years now and all years on the bench have been spent at the AA level with U15 and U16 age groups. All years of coaching have been spent in the Ottawa area: Nepean, Kanata and now Gloucester. The past 2 seasons have been spent as Head Coach for U15 AA.

Coaching Philosophy:

I believe in creating a competitive and fun environment where the players fall in love with the game and fully commit themselves to getting better every time we are at the rink. We want to expand and build on Hockey I.Q., encourage creativity and establish roles for each and every player. Skill development, work ethic, respect and instilling the right habits are the foundation of success.

As a completely non-parent coaching staff we are fully dedicated to every single player, and want nothing but success for them. As a coaching staff we have become familiar with multiple U18 programs creating relationships, which we plan to use to get the players exposure for the next level. The use of technical skills coaches, video, off-ice fitness and nutrition are all additional tools our coaching staff will use to make our team and players better.

Hockey Experience:

My hockey career as a goalie expands from playing in House league as a Tyke to playing AAA in Bantam and Midget levels. I started learning the art of coaching while playing with a few clubs in NOJHA. As a back up goalie, listening and learning from those with great knowledge of the game guided me to relinquish my goalie pads for a rink diagram pad.

Coaching Experience

This will be my 30th year offering and sharing my hockey knowledge. I have a diverse portfolio of coaching experiences which include: Educator, Evaluator, Training Specialist, Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Consultant, on-ice helper, Coach Mentor and Trainer. The only thing missing is being a Zamboni driver. All those roles have allowed me to understand better the game from different lenses. This will be my 3rd year that I will be a Head Coach with the Gloucester Rangers. Prior to this association, I have coached within multiple associations such as recently with the OMHA, CMHA, Eastern Ontario Wild. Also coached in Sudbury, Montreal and was an instructor in Switzerland.

Coaching Philosophy

My primary goal is to develop players to their maximum potential to eventually expose them to other opportunities associated with hockey. The way to do this is to continue improving their strengths and overcome their weakness while still learning the game.

In addition to this, my expectations are usually high for any age group but mostly at Midget levels. I expect the team to compete at the highest level and to be accountable of the type of game/practice is played on any given day. Open communication and leadership will be stressed on all. The combination of the attributes of practicing and playing hard will lead to building self-confidence in which in tails to offer a better positive team concept.

Hockey Background:

I have been involved in hockey my whole life playing and coaching hockey and I am looking forward to coaching the U18 Gloucester Rangers for the 2022-2023 season.

I grew up playing minor hockey in the Ottawa area before moving onto play four years with the Nepean Raiders (Central Junior A at the time) including being the captain for my final two years. After that I received a hockey scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the Ohio State Buckeyes for four seasons and graduated from there in 1996.

Coaching Philosophy:

I want to promote a positive atmosphere where the players can have fun and improve as individuals and as a team at the same time. In order to have success and have fun the players must be ready and eager to learn and work hard at all times when they are with their team.
