Louis Sauvé's Gloucester Rangers Major Peewee "A" team were grinning ear-to-ear
when they were crowned champions of the 36th Annual Whitby Thanksgiving
Tournament. After winning 2 of their 3 round-robin games against the Brantford
99s (5-2) and the Stouffville Clippers (7-5) and a narrow 3-2 loss against the
Whitby Wildcats the Rangers moved forward to the semi-finals. The underdog
Rangers shut-out the previously undefeated Aurora Tigers 3-0 and then exploded
with 3 goals in the 3rd period of the final game against the Cambridge Hawks
giving the Rangers a solid 5-2 win and the Championship Trophy. The success of
the team was based on strong passing, short shifts, dominating physical play
and solid goal keeping. Kudos to the players for demonstrating great team work
and to the coaching staff for maintaining focus and managing 3 days of exciting
hockey. An excellent start to the 2007-08 hockey season and definitely a
forewarning of great things to come!
