Major Atom A - An Impressive Group
The Gloucester Ranger Atom A team traveled to Toronto November 23-25 to compete
in the Ice Dogs Fall Tournament. The boys all arrived safely after long drives
through a major winter storm. All the rest while driving to Toronto must have
done them good because they hit the ice Friday morning against the Toronto Ice
Dogs and completely dominated the game from the first face off and continued
this dominance through the round robin. They defeated The Ice Dogs 7-0, Sarnia
Jr. String 5-1 and Allen Park Huskies 3-1, finishing first in their pool. They
went on to dominate the semi finals defeating the Sarnia Jr. Sting 5-0.
Unfortunately despite a valiant effort they fell short succumbing to the
Huskies 2-1 in the final.
The boys showed that they are truly a talented TEAM and not a group of
individual players during this tournament. They can hold their heads high and
be proud of finishing second. Despite the loss they showed many impressive
traits. They posted the most impressive record in their division of the
tournament scoring 21 goals, allowing only 4 goals against and both goaltenders
earning shutouts in just 5 games. They showed self-control and sportsmanship
throughout their games and held their heads high after their loss while they
shook hands and banged their sticks in congratulations for the other team. You
are an impressive group of boys and for that we are all very proud!
