Outstanding team work, physical play and phenomenal goaltending laid the groundwork for the Gloucester Rangers Major Bantam AA team being crowned the champions of the Capital Winter Classic.
There were 16 teams from Ontario, Quebec and the United States and the competition was tough but the Rangers won the tournament undefeated.
The first game of the round robin was against the 4th place Quebec League Team, Foreurs de Val-d'Or and the Rangers overpowered them 4-2. Next game was against the Amherst Knights with a solid 6-0 win for the Rangers.
The final game of the round robin was against the Newmarket Redmans. Solid play by both teams resulted in a 1-1 tie. Point difference gave the Rangers the bye to the semi-finals where the Rangers outplayed the Silver 7s with a 1-0 win.
Final Championship game was against Kanata. The Rangers were down 3-0 in
the 2nd period however pure determination and team work allowed the Rangers to battle to an incredible 4-3 win.
